"In order to meet his financial needs, in 1991, the contemporary artist, Kurt Ryslavy, decided to embark on a business venture. Far from abandoning his art for this income-based activity, he saw it as an integral part of his work. Kurt Ryslavy paints his accounts on canvas, and in order to create the image of a skilled art lover and an entrepreneur with great taste, he exhibits the works of the artists in his collection in the offices and reception rooms of his home. His home becomes a work of art in its own right. [1] The artist's proteiform practice challenges the art market and its clichés and disturbs the established order of artistic activity. Although he had worked for many years as a professional artist in Belgium, Kurt Ryslavy was not recognised as such by certain competent Belgian ministerial institutions. Therefore, in 2007, he created a de facto association which covered all areas of his art and which allowed him to be acknowledged as a recognised amateur artist. Thus, the artist humorously questions the cultural policy and the system of allocating subsidies."

"Man muss nicht Marcel Broodthaers (conservateur du Musée d’Art Moderne, Département des Aigles) kennen, um diese Installation verstehen (und lesen) zu können. Lawrence Weiner behauptete Konzeptkunst sei undefinierbar, im Gegensatz zu contemporary art. O.k., zwei besondere Merkmale meiner konzeptuellen Malerei sind zum Beispiel, dass ich versuche möglichst wenig Schmutz zu machen – bei deren Herstellung. Oder, dass ich die Bilder rückseitig signiere, bevor ich sie male (!), um sie besser in den sozialen Medien kommunizieren zu können (und die Ausstellungs- und Archivadministration bewältigen zu können). Alle inhaltlichen Details (Daten, Zahlen, Eigennamen wie Marie-Puck Broodthaers z.B.) auf den installierten Gemälden entsprechen der Realität."
